The social network gaint Facebook is going to build its sixth new data center in the Clonee,Ireland.
Facebook announced to build a new data center in Clonee
Facebook’s Vice President of Engineering, Jay Parikh said in a post on the social networking website. Yosemite is an open source modular chassis for high-powered microservers, designed by Facebook.
Here is the post which was posted via official account of Facebook’s Vice President of Engineering, Jay Parikh :
“Today we announced our plans to build a new data center in Clonee, Ireland.
This will be our sixth data center overall and our second outside the US. Like our Fort Worth, Altoona, and Lulea data centers, this location will be run entirely on renewable energy, thanks to the copious supply of wind energy that already exists in Ireland.
This will help us reach our goal of powering 50 percent of our infrastructure with clean and renewable energy by the end of 2018.
Clonee will also feature a 100GbE fabric network leveraging building blocks like Wedge, FBOSS, and 6-Pack.
We will outfit this data center with the latest OCP server and storage hardware, including Yosemite for computer.
These technologies will help make Clonee one of the most advanced and energy efficient data centers in the world part of the highly advanced infrastructure that helps bring Facebook apps and services to you every day.”
Each building will cover an area of 28,000 square meters.

Lulea is on the edge of the Arctic Circle, and has a mean annual temperature of around 1 °C, with average summer highs of around 20 C, allowing Facebook to save money by cooling its data center with fresh air rather than air conditioning.
Using free air cooling will help Facebook increase a key measure of data center efficiency, its PUE (power usage effectiveness).
PUE is calculated as the :
Total power consumption of the data center =T
cooling and lighting systems =C
power consumption of IT systems = P
Hence by evaluating the following mathematical expression we can fin out the: PUE = (T+C)/P
The less power wasted on ancillary functions such as cooling and lighting, the more energy-efficient the data center becomes.
The recruiting for permanent roles in our Clonee Datacenter we will advertise all jobs on the Facebook Career page: www.facebook.com/careers. Be sure to check regularly in the coming months.
