Stephen Hawking’s Intel Speech System is available for everyone.
As we know that technology is the best friend of human being. It can be used for both either good or bad cause , but there is no less peoples in the world who all are constantly doing work in the field of technology for the good cause. One of the best example for such work can be viewed as Assistive Context-Aware Toolkit (ACAT) speech system being used by the Stephen Hawking.
What is ACAT?
The ACAT is a speech synthesis system specially created for the Mr.Hawking who is suffering with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as motor neurone disease.
How It Works?
This software seeks for the change in facial movements and translates them into text It can take input either from a webcam or an infrared sensor, after taking the inputs, the system selects letters to form words, while the software predicts from what the user types. This system has additional keyboard to access the other application such as web browser or other similar application.

ACAT toolkit was developed in C# using Microsoft Visual Studio* 2012 and .NET 4.5. It runs on Microsoft Windows 7 or + and is distributed under the Apache License, Version 2.0.
- Intel’s Sai Prasad, the project’s owner said, by making the software open, Intel is giving chance to the developers for the more betterment of this system and othe functions might be added.
- It will attract the developers who are interested in developing accessibility as well as Assistive technologies to people who all are suffering with ALS.
- The MS developers who are working on new user interfaces, new sensing programs or word prediction and wanting to explore these innovations in the this community.
